This look our team created is stripped of excess and decidedly down to earth. However, there’s nothing wrong with giving it a glitzy edge! Our spring table celebrates the wonder of life. We used materials in the food, by Kate George, and décor, by Fleur le Cordeur, that are from sourced locally to showcase it in its most impressive form. The venue, Villa Serenity, also offered fantastic views and an eco-friendly interior. The overall message: “Let your imagination run wild by drawing on the magic of your surrounding and explore the good of what Mother Nature offers so abundantly!”

Our table set-up was simple yet striking – we discarded vases and floral containers in favour of a lush bush of flowers running down the middle to emphasise the notion of organic growth. We had a creative and design vision and Heike from Fleur le Cordeur translated it beautifully. To keep the centrepiece interesting, we used different types of flowers at varying heights. We wanted the place settings to be timeless and chic. So by combining contemporary crockery from Urban Tonic with vintage pieces and gold accents from My Pretty Vintage, and stationery supplied by the team from Secret Diary, we were able to convey a mood that was natural and glamorous. We wanted guests to embrace the occasion without feeling overwhelmed by too much detail. The stationery was given a glamorous “Fifth Avenue” theme given the natural appearance of the décor and food. The stationery drew inspiration from summertime party dresses in metallic shades and muted jade and yellow tones. We wanted the overall look of the stationery to be sophisticated, but also have an element of whimsy to it. We also used laser cutting and a few clever folding techniques for the cocktail flags.

Delectable Delights: Mint and yellow colours are found in nature, so it was easy to create canapés that were not only lovely to taste, but also reflected the colour palette. Kate George used mint as a colour of influence and a flavourful ingredient in her creations. A little gold leaf on the salad gave a hint of the unexpected. The food for this wedding was fresh, clean, locally sourced and seasonal (think chilled soup, kudu tartar, seafood). The wedding cake, created by Roxanne Floquet Cake Designs, was fun and youthful with soft romantic touches. Keep it simple, with an element of surprise in the presentation and display.

Designer Décor: as we were creating a celebration that celebrates the season, spring flowers were very important. The mint colour was enhanced by using desert succulents. These gave the effect of a continuous garden from which spring flowers “erupted”. For the yellow and white tulips and daffodils added playfulness to the look. Miniature orchids added a touch of elegance and yellow Billy’s Ball flowers for a fun twist. The overall look we created drew everyone in: it was simply too fresh and fun-filled not to!

Luxe Lighting:  gold sprayed bulbs in varying styles and sizes makes a simple, effective statement when used as a hanging feature over the table. Something-Different provided stunning décor-orientated lighting fitted in perfectly with our creative brief. The lighting complements the flowers and place settings with becoming the main focus – rather tying the look together fantastically. A battery powered table lamp, a new feature to the market, with no additional boxes or cables, is ornate enough to add a sheer element of festiveness and can be finished with any shape or style shade. We sourced a gorgeous sequined gold material to lend a chic effect to the otherwise natural appearance of the table.
