The magnificence of the Cape winelands formed the backdrop to this colourful luxury wedding that fused classic elegance with Moroccan flair! Our inspiration came from the couple’s diverse cultural heritage and international lifestyle. Groom, Byron, is of Greek and South African extraction, and now lives in Jakarta. His gorgeous bride, Lamia, is of Moroccan-Dutch descent, and is based in Singapore. To celebrate the culmination of their love story, the Wedding Concepts team created a stunning three-day destination wedding for the stylish couple and their 130 guests from around the world.

One of our favourite ways to celebrate cultural fusion is through the use of a bold and colourful palette. We selected a rich, evocative medley of purple, fuscia, yellow, coral, and teal to punctuate the traditional white for this colourful luxury wedding. Combined with the spectacular scenery that South Africa offers, an exceptional destination wedding experience was born. The venue was Molenvliet Vineyards, where guests were wowed by the panoramic views and exceptional service. Not to mention the gorgeous floral displays that enhanced every visual moment.

Lamia and Byron opted for a ceremony in the round, literally surrounding themselves with the love of family and friends as well as the beauty of the vineyards and the mountains towering beyond. The bride was a vision in a form-fitting Steven Khalil lace gown with tulle overskirt and floaty veil. She made her entrance in a vintage 1936 Chevrolet limousine, carrying a plush bouquet of white peonies and garden roses. We kept the ceremony décor relatively simple: a white arch, festooned with trailing white florals, on a raised platform. White parasols helped guests stay cool in the drowsy summer heat, as the bride and groom said a joyful “I do”.

Afterwards, the party moved on to colourful pre-drinks, lounging among the vines with roaming canapés and delicious food stations to enjoy along with chilled bottles of sparkling brut rosé from the Molenvliet cellar.

Since this colourful luxury wedding was all about fusing both families and cultures, we took our cue from Lamia’s Moroccan heritage for the reception décor. It was also a tribute to the joyful personalities of the couple themselves. Vibrant hues and massed florals were the order of the day, calling to mind the bustling souks and lush gardens of Marrakech. On the other side, the groom’s background informed the menu, a South African and Greek inspired gourmet family feast. Guests dined at long tables, beneath incredible floral installations mixed with bold pendants. Tabletops were kept clean and chic, so that the focus was on the vertical displays as well as the food.

Even once the last plate had been cleared, the night was far from over! In fact, the after party, which lasted well into the morning hours, was nothing short of spectacular. Guests were entertained by a seven-piece live band, as well as one of Johannesburg’s top DJs, who had been flown in for the occasion. Led by the bride and groom, they danced the night away beneath the glow of a custom neon sign, as bright as the love they all came to celebrate.
